Don't be discouraged, chances are someone read and may remember even if they didn't reply. I use a keyword tracker to alert me to find (possibly) relevant blogs and it does take a lot of time reading through; but some do reply and that's nice.
Why not both? Much of the promotional text and graphics can probably be recycled for grant applications, adjusted for audience, and it's good that crowdfunding makes you think about a wide audience.
