We definitely missed the opportunity to promote through Reddit on Kickstarter last fall and hope to make sure to take advantage of this huge platform this time around.

Last time, we put up posts during our campaign and it was simply spam for most users. This time we plan on becoming much more active and engaging the month or 2 before our campaign begins (which is NOW for us).

I am not a big Reddit user to this point. Are there subreddits for crowdfunding specifically? If you only had one month what is the best way to gain as much interaction and engagement pre-launch? I imagine genuine engagement is more important than quantity of posts? Or the other way around?

Subreddits: r/kickstarter, r/charity (if gofundme), r/crowdfunding. Kickstarter is the biggest, but I would also recommend researching subreddits in your specific niche.

I would share some interesting stories in subreddits you plan to launch in (not your own stories, news, etc) and also add helpful comments on other people's posts. Kind of like Kickstarter or this forum - contribute to the community before sharing your own thing .

Also - if you are able to form any genuine relationships with regular users via the commenting and PMing, this could be a good tool once you do launch (you can ask them to share it).

Sweet thanks for the advice. I am working on it although I know the Reddit community is a little skeptical of new accounts (which is completely understandable) so it will take some time. As you said, like anything, you need to give back tot he community before asking!!

I'm excited to learn more about the platform!

I've been posting my Kickstarter on Reddit without any luck. I've posted in the kickstarter, video, and shameless plug subreddits. Any suggestions on where I can post my campaign on reddit.

Reddit is one of those things that I just don't get! Wishing I had time to focus on building something over there. Thanks for the helpful insights!

@bluemoon. The article explains how to use it for promotional purposes. If you're looking for a very basic "how to" I'd recommend: http://mashable.com/2012/06/06/reddit-for-beginners/

I have a question for anyone who has used or plans to use Reddit for funding their project: did you go for subreddits of your niche and how were you received? It seems like a tough place to post as a new account, especially if it is for guiding users to your project... doesn't seem like most take too kindly to anything that resembles advertisement. Any advice?
