Tips to Make Stickers Last Longer on Hydro Flasks?

by Mildred Lloyd » Wed Dec 18, 2024 2:01 pm

    Hi everyone,

I’m planning to create custom stickers as part of a Kickstarter reward tier for a new project. The design is coming out great but I want to make sure the stickers are high quality and won’t peel off easily, especially on items like Hydro Flasks or water bottles.

While researching, I found this helpful blog post that talks about why stickers might peel off and how to make them stick better. It got me thinking about the types of materials and adhesive we should use to make the rewards durable.

Have any of you included stickers as rewards for your campaigns? If so, do you have tips for ensuring they stay put and keep looking great?

Looking forward to hearing your advice!

That's a great question! Stickers are a popular reward, but durability is definitely key, especially for something like a Hydro Flask that gets a lot of use (and washing!). I haven't run a Kickstarter myself, but I've bought plenty of stickers, and here's what I've noticed makes a difference:

Vinyl: Vinyl stickers are generally the most durable and weather-resistant. They hold up well to water and sun exposure.
Lamination: A laminate layer over the printed design adds extra protection against scratches and fading. This is especially important for stickers that will be used outdoors or on items that are frequently handled.
Adhesive: Look for stickers with a strong adhesive, specifically designed for outdoor use or for sticking to smooth surfaces like metal or plastic. Some adhesives are even formulated to withstand repeated washing.
Since you're planning to use them as Kickstarter rewards, it's worth contacting a few sticker printing companies and asking about their options for durable, weatherproof stickers. They can usually provide samples so you can test them out yourself.

I'm curious what the blog post you found recommended – any specific types of vinyl or adhesive they mentioned? It's always good to get different perspectives. Thanks for bringing this up! It's helpful for anyone considering using stickers in the future.
