    New Sales tip area?

    by InfiniteHorizonsUly » Mon Jan 13, 2014 7:27 am

    Hey Sal,
Now that my campaign is closed and I am in the amazon 14 day frozen fund phase (blown away, every pledge but 4 has already been processed!) I have a ton of free time. My new sales job is considerably less demanding of my time. I work 4 days a week, for 7 hours. This was my first week as a full commissioned salesperson. Despite the dip, I now see that I can earn close to what I did as a furniture salesperson, except not having to work 50 hours and bell to bell days. I only work one day a week at the art/frame shop and I do watch Lil' Griff during the day, but crowdfunding has changed me. . .

I crashed after the project ended. Slept 14 hours Saturday night!! But now, the pattern and behavior I established since November 8th is cemented into my phyche. Since I am outsourcing the prints, the major activity will be focused on shipping. But with 3 full days off a week, I don't for see being overwhelmed.

I know somewhere you mentioned having a background in sales. I love sales and am a student of the psychology of sales. I know many people believe salespeople are scum. But those are people who may have been burned by an unsavory salesperson. Doctors kill thousands of people a year through sheer negligence, sometimes even because of arrogance and hubris. But the reputation of most doctors are stellar.

I feel I am an information broker. My current mission at work is getting people to cancel cable--buy a smart TV or a Roku or Google TV or Pushtv type of device, and a 20 dollar indoor HD antenna if they are addicted to local news and sports. I love asking how much they spend a month on cable, then breaking down how much that is over a decade.

I have never been a moderator on a website. But what do you think of a sales section? If you feel this is too ambitious, or not needed, maybe a stickied thread somehwere, where sales tips and links can be shared.

Despite what many creators may think, their project funding engine is fueled by the public's buying decisions. And the phsycology of why people make buying decisions is a deep and well studied mine of information. I feel that every creator should at least read and own one solid sales book and have a basic skill set of sales techniques in their wheelhouse.

I am game if you are.

Wow, I just realized I launched into sales mode with this post!

I like your passion and you have a lot of good knowledge about sales :)

Here's what I'm thinking, why don't you create a few threads in the Question or General thread and I will work at directing people to those threads that I think could benefit from the sales tips and then once we get a few convos going, I can move those threads into their own forum and make you a moderator?

    Mbroadway,
Thank you! You will find that everyone here is very helpful and welcoming. Don't be shy and start a post if you need help with any aspect of launching a Kickstarter project. Once you have your project edited, share it here and crowd source any ideas on what can be improved.

Then enter soft launch mode and maybe run your pre-campaign on pitchfuse.com

But even though this forum is not even 2 years old, drilling down into past posts and threads will help you immensely!

I think sales on phone could be convincing enough, for the people who does not have such a good break up of expenses etc, and we can really explain them in a better way.
