Video Script - Voiceover or Engagement

    by monicaneubauer » Tue Jun 25, 2019 1:49 pm

    Hi!

I am working on my script for my fashion product that I will put on Kickstarter in August. Most fashion videos use voiceovers. I have excellent talent in my video and am thinking about having them share the problem and what they think of the product. Do you have comments or suggestions about the benefits of Voiceover audio or onsite recordings for the video?

    Thanks!

    Hi monicaneubauer,

Are you working with a full-fledged video agency? If not, there are a few technical things you have to keep in mind. For one, with a voiceover audio, you have the ability to control for a lot more things than onsite recording, especially if the area you're shooting in is extremely loud.

If the place you're shooting in is relatively quiet and you can record multiple shots, I'd say the onsite recording makes more a much compelling argument. It will be more like an interview-style scene where people are being honest about a product; that always works much better with onsite recordings. Check out this campaign (scroll down to the testimonial video) - they had people talk about what they honestly thought of the product and shot these videos onsite: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/bravo-headphones-the-best-sound-at-the-best-price#/

Thanks nomlinz! It is done. We did it in the studio. They did awesome. I hired professionals and they worked around the rain and thunder even. We did the interview style and they used some of it as a voiceover with other photos and video shots. It is coming out really well.

I appreciate your thoughts. I have qued up that video to take a look later.

That is a local connection. You can try a local college where they have video classes.

Just to follow-up. We re-wrote and re-sounded (if that's a word) our voice over for a campaign.

The original voice was Chinese/English but as we were targeting a US audience we got a local American to do it and it worked better.

Voice Over in a studio should sound really good, I am glad that you managed to do it until the end and finish your video. I didn't find any good studio in my city, and I have to do all the work by myself, using one of the best video converter. If you put some time in it, the result can be of the same quality as if it was made in a studio. It all depends on your attitude and how hard you wanna focus on quality. I am perfectionist, so I like to process all the small details, until I feel that it's perfect.

Hey, I don't know if you need a voice-over. First of all, it is a commonly used technique in television production, filmmaking, theatre, or other presentations. The voice-over is read from a script and maybe spoken by someone who appears elsewhere in the show or by a specialist voice actor. If you are doing an informative video, I think it could be helpful.

I must agree, sometimes it's even easier to do it all by myself.
I've made all of our videos for the Kickstarter myself using basic video editing skills. Even though I'm an experienced videographer, I should say it's not rocket science, so I completely agree with dangarang.

Back to the voiceover, the main trick is to reduce the background sounds (personally, I use noise removal and a gate to remove all unintentional noise in Audacity) and it seems like you've dealt with it already. And be sure to use the voice recorder - just a regular program can't do the trick.
So all I can say - good luck with your company!
