I decided to try Indiegogo because my project doesn't require all-or-nothing funding. Anything I receive will help and will go toward the project.

I was planning to use GoFundMe, but then found out that they don't allow rewards any longer. I think rewards will help me maintaining an ongoing relationship with my backers.

My project is to produce a series of oil paintings on the Cherokee Indians of the Southeastern united States. They livd in this region for thousands of years until they were pushed out as the United States grew. Indiegogo looks like it will be ideal for funding the telling of their story in oil paintings.

I don’t use it often but when I do it’s generally for campaigns that don’t exist or kickstarter

Kickstarter rejected my projected because we were too far along and releasing the product instead of trying to make it happen.

I am thinking to use it because my country is not supported by kickstarter yet!

It's 2019 now so there are a few things to talk about when it comes to the difference between Kickstarter and Indiegogo:

The biggest thing is that Indiegogo has now fully positioned itself as the main platform to launch hardware products to the market. They've not only built out a solid resource list for entrepreneurs, but they've also created an end-to-end system in helping entrepreneurs bring their hardware products to life. This ranges from helping entrepreneurs match up with suppliers to figuring out DFM (design for manufacture) all the way through to shipping and fulfillment.

With Kickstarter, they've continued to be true to their message of bringing creative projects to life. This ranges from film projects to board games. Fun fact: board games is the largest sector on Kickstarter!

That's the main difference between the two now that we're in 2019, but for more comparison points, check out the full article here: https://crushcrowdfunding.com/the-ultimate-comparison-indiegogo-or-kickstarter/

Are there any pros to Indiegogo vs. kickstarter? I know gofundme seems more for personal projects whereas KS seems to be products.

There are several alternatives. I was just wondering why you personally use Indiegogo?
I do both.... each platform has its own community, is what I am thinking

People generally use Indiegogo for the flexible funding options however the platform fee for this type of funding is quite high.
Indiegogo is second best popular crowdfunding platform after Kickstarter.
Even I have tried couple of campaigns on Indiegogo.
However, I prefer Kickstarter as the best.

So there are main ways in which Indiegogo would be a better choice for a creator:

    1. Indiegogo focuses primarily on electronic products and smart hardware, at least more so than Kickstarter. That’s been their main positioning and it’s not slowing down.
    2. Indiegogo allows you to use tracking pixels and see on the advertising platform which ads are driving pre-orders.
    3. Indiegogo has added more functionality on their website to make it more like an eCommerce platform.
    4. Indiegogo prides itself as being a platform where Campaign Strategists are assigned to help you succeed.
