I see so many projects on Kickstarter where the title, thumbnail image, and description don't reveal much about the project or aren't compelling. If people are browsing the newly launched section or they see your project embedded on a website, they will be more likely to click on it if you have a good title, description, and thumbnail image.

2. Don't forget about taxes.

Not all pledges are considered "donations" for your campaign. Many pledge tiers are considered taxable. If you're not using up all of your funds as expenses and have profit left over, it's likely taxable. I wrote up my complete thoughts on this issue here.

3. Direct emails and messages convert better than mass emails or facebook posting.

This tip is corroborated by others on this forum and my own experience. Even if you export your fb friends list and send everyone an email blast, you can't expect it to be as well converting as if you directly emailed each friend (personalized introduction). This is also true when posting your project on facebook. You will get a better ROI if you direct message each friend and also answer any concerns. So far I'd say having a video helps! Even if it's not the most professional video it doesn't matter. As long as it's genuine, clearly shows what your project is, than mission accomplished!

I just launched my project on Kickstarter yesterday and we're about 60% funded.
From the launch, it's evident that 3 things are very important!

1) Be sure to invite all your friends to pledge even if you think they would not be interested in your product
2) You have to build your email list. Take at least a month or two before your launch to build it!
3) Don't just build your email list. Send them regular content on your story! Get them engaged leading up to your launch!

We didn't really prep well on 2 & 3! We definitely work on those in the future.

Wow really amazing

Hello for everyone! I just started my first own project on kickstarter.
I really spent a lot of time and my heart for this project, BUT I have only 33 backers after 3 days.

I spend more than 30 hours to wrote letters (more than 300) for different sepicalized web-sites (which sepcialised on hand-made or woolen product and so) to get promo, but I have no answer from anybody.

Can anybody give me advice how to promote my project and what can really help to find new backers?

Why reinvent the wheel? Check out what some of the most innovative small businesses around the world are doing with their campaigns and tweak some of the details to suit your own.

2.Self-promote like mad.

Your crowdfunding platform isn’t going to do all the marketing and PR for you—in fact, it’ll be minimal in most cases. It’s up to you to showcase your business, idea and campaign. Reach out to journalists at top publications. Seek out guest blog opportunities.

3. Create a video.

Numerous studies show that people (like your potential investors) are increasingly preferring short, quality videos over text. Make sure you include an engaging video on your crowdfunding page to lure in potential investors who prefer video over text.

4.Don’t jump the gun.

There might be a peak time to pursue crowdfunding, but it’s different for everyone, depending on what stage your company is in. In most cases there’s probably not going to be a “perfect time,” so you probably shouldn’t be waiting for one.

5. Follow instructions.

Obviously, right? However, what might seem like a small oversight can have devastating results. Read the fine print. Are you old enough? Are you a resident of an eligible country? Is crowdfunding appropriate for what you’re trying to fund?...etc

6.Have a POA after the campaign.

You need a plan of action whether you reach your goal or not. If you do succeed, how will you deliver on the promises you made and how can you leverage this success for the next stage? How will you use the customer information you obtain from the campaign? How will it help inform future marketing efforts?

7. Pamper your project.

You can’t just publish your crowdfunding page and call it good. Kickstarter recommends building a list of followers and supporters who you can tap at strategic points during the campaign. This way, you can project the appearance that the campaign is growing steadily and not stalling out. Also, join a community that shares ideas and resources on what’s worked in the past.

8.Tap investors.

Depending on the crowdfunding platform you use, you may be able to reach out directly to accredited investors. Check out what other types of campaigns they’ve funded, or see if yours is different but complementary. A personal touch can work wonders.

9. Be patient.

Overnight success stories are exciting but rare. Your platform probably has a reasonable yet challenging timeline you can follow. Don’t expect miracles, and remember that slow and steady wins the race.
