    Has anyone used this strategy before?

    So we are considering a (new? type of) strategy we know is not a mainstream method to promote a Kickstarter campaign. We can think of a few good reasons why we shouldn't do it but there are also a few reasons why we should.

    Our product has five functions total. Two are key/main functions, the 'selling point', and the rest are useful addons, but not necessarily a deal breaker to most people at least.

    So the strategy is to reveal two key/main functions and an additional 1 or 2 functions. But keep 1 or 2 as a secret for people to guess. Whoever guesses correctly will win a prize (the product or something else).

    What do you guys think?

    I don't think that sounds good. You're looking for investors and backers but you're keeping the selling points as a secret? doesn't make much sense to me.

    Just show off everything you've got, explain the benefits and how it will help.

    I agree with hyperstarter, the more you share the awesome functions, the more impact you will have to bring in backers quickly.

    No doubt: Your Strategy is Good, but not applicable for Every Campaign.

    Umm... This is called using stretch goals. Hate to break it to you, but you didn't invent this at all.
