Hi Colin,
Just joined the group and read your post and I'm inspired by how much you gave back to other people. Thank you very much. I'm on here learning about Kickstarter campaigns as in the next month or so, I plan to start my own for my first feature film. I've been a shorts maker for the past 7 years, worked with stars on bigger budgeted shorts that I've paid for and now want to try and achieve the level of success that so many of you have. Do you have any advice for a nearly novice Kickstarter individual looking to be successful? Jim Rothman

Right now we're looking at another attempt at getting our Kickstarter going. I may have found a manufacturer who can make a more limited run of our product for a much more reasonable price. I'm still trying to find people who would be interested in funding our idea.

I think we got a little over confident in the beginning, but we're learning from our mistakes and will try again. It seems like the main battle will be marketing. Can email marketing really make a difference? How have you gotten the word out?

I would love your thoughts on my campaign and also ask you how I can implement what you said about sharing and start helping others?

So my Kickstarter campaign is a fitness app that I've spent 14 months designing so that it can actual help people achieve their fitness goals. I feel like you have a great point about how if you're genuinely interested in other people then they will be interested in you back. I try to be as sincere as possible when I talk to someone, not just because I want them to back my Kickstarter, but because I feel like that's just a genuinely great way to live life. In turn, living life like this and supporting people's ideas definitely has helped my Kickstarter so far.

I just reread your post. You're right. I've been selfish lately which is easy to understand given the campaign. I'm 9 days in and raised $11121 of my $50,000 goal. It's a horror film so I'm hoping the horror film community will help out and send a run-up the last week.

But what I noticed more was my inspirational messages got more attentions than my asking for pledges. So I think I'll focus more on that.

Good to hear all these stories that grew under your post. It is good to hear that there are more people around that thought their idea had so much power that it would go viral on its own. Actually, this is my case too I am not sure how to put your pieces of advice into practice - I do not have a blog to go public about something, nor a great community to turn to. Right now I have pretty much a non-converting page. It was tested before the Kickstarter and did convert to emails, so I thought it would covert to pledges. Sadly, it does not. If anyone reading this thread had a time to spare and took a quick look at the page, it would go a long way for me. I desperately need feedback about what's wrong with the campaign. I'll return the same, if that's of any value to you. Thanks!

I liked the part where you talked about creating a blog post and sharing it! I'm sure your blog post provided lots of value instead of just going to bloggers and saying "Hey, here's my product go promote it please". Good job on reaching 13k for your Kickstarter! I plan to launch my product soon and I hope to do the same!

I realise the first post is a bit old by now, but it's exactly what I needed to read! Our project started out better than we could have ever dreamed, but now, after the first week, it's already slowing down. I'm very happy with the advise of the topic starter, as well as all the advice in the replies. Thanks everyone!
