Hi guys,

I've been on Kickstarter for about a week, and I have 24 backers as of right now. The thing is, I should have 30 backers, but I've had 6 backers cancel their pledge.

1 of them I can understand, he signed up then cancelled less than a minute later, maybe the shipping costs were unexpected or something. But the others, I have no idea. In the past 24 hours I've had 3 cancel... It was a real kick in the gut.

A 20% cancelation rate seems really high to me.... I was expecting something closer to 10%.

Just bad luck?

What has been your experience running a campaign? I'd love to hear other stories about this.

You may just have a case of bad luck to be honest. Have you tried getting in touch with the people who have cancelled pledges? What did they say?

Can I ask what your current cancellations number is?

In our campaign we've asked everyone who cancelled why, of those that replied it was lust and the an financial sense check causing the cancellation.

What did your guys say?

I've had 5 our of current total of 52 cancel. So 5/57, little less than 10%. Only one responded when asked why and it was a money issue. 4 of them were international backers who were paying a rather high amount for shipping, so I don't feel too discouraged.

Amazingly, the number has stayed pretty consistent. We have 93 backers now, and 21 cancelations. Given that means we totally would have had 114 backers without the cancelations, this means we've had about a 19% cancelation rate.

I really have no idea what went wrong that caused so many backers to cancel. I have concluded that our project is fairly niche and something people will look at and think "That's pretty cool!" but it's not something they themselves actually want.

Keep contacting with your backer. Ask them to know the reasons so that you can deal with it on your nexe project
