If a someone is going to pledge then the earlier the better. Money raised is social proof.

To echo some of the previous comments (which I wish I followed myself earlier on in my project), I think momentum begets momentum. The longer you hold out a certain pledge, especially a large one, the longer it will take for you to build momentum. In future crowdsourcing attempts I might wait a week or so after the initial barrage of donations has come in to process a large one, but definitely not as long as I've waited with my own for a large family donation - 6 weeks into an 8 week project!

Not at all... A lot of our family members were the first to donate for our project. It actually helps because people see a funded project before they see who funded it...

On this topic, I would like to know about family member pledges.

If a family member, who lives in the same house as you pledges on your project, does that go against the Kickstarter rules? I'm not sure if two people, who share a billing address and a surname would be considered against the rules for KS. Do not want to be suspended when a family member just wants to support!

Anyone have experience on this pledging on a son, daughter, mother, father, spouse's project?
