don't launch a campaign party unless you have tons of friends that can go

Make sure everyone RSVPs beforehand . Then don't trust that RSVP- most won't show up.

Here is my most important tip:

Create personalized videos for each blogger that you reach out to. Record them on your webcam, and put them before your promo video... it works wonders

We haven't launched yet, but from my experience the past month is that you should prepare hardcore and be super organized to contact media a while before you launch. It is definite that you will get press attention if you prepare for it-meaning, you must have:
    - Great hi resolution photos
    - Your video ready or a cut version of it (that's what we did)
    - Present your story and project in the best way possible (maybe someone who has experience in promotion could help you)

here are some links i have regarding preparation

The best tip for a campaign is to get people on board even before you launch. It's super important to create that fanbase.

I think you're right (the guy who made a comment about email on Page 1 of this thread).

Emails are great as long as they are personal. Example would be using the person's name at the top, but also mentioning somewhere in the email a product they have or something they've done to make them want to back you...if you don't know them, you need to connect on their level with some other way.

This is a lot of very sage advice! I'm involved with my first campaign now, and I'd better scramble to implement a lot of these fundamentals.

Hello everyone. I'm rather new to Kickstarter. I didn't launch my campaign, but after researching continuously and reading the many tips from past pages, I was wondering if someone would be willing to give me feedback prior to launching the actual campaign? Here's a preview link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/43 ... n=44b5f5dd

As for what I learned, while I never did have a successful campaign and about to start my first, I can list what I learned through research. I learned that it's important to be the driving force behind your project and how imperative it is to not build a barrier between yourself and potential backers. Basically, be yourself. Also, I heard that it's better if one was to offer nice rewards in exchange while having a nice story detailing what your project is about and why you're starting this campaign. Also, it's important to engage the people. Whether it's through e-mailing ,newsletters, blogs, podcasts, videos, social media etc. It's also important to be honest and to share details of your project. What are you doing? Why? Frequently update and follow through with comments and messages. Use outside sources to help bring in traffic because from what I read, in most cases, using Kickstarter alone won't be enough to generate enough traffic. Try establishing a bond with your potential backers because these people are putting their money for your cause. Have a realistic goal and be fair. Make sure the quality featured in your campaign is decent and do not spam people with your campaign. Have friends and family help get the word out of your campaign and be sure to be organized! Plan the campaign at least a month ahead of the actual launch. It could be beneficial to build partnerships with people of similar material as a means of trying to expand potential traffic. Make a video, it will increase your chances. Be sure to send follow up thank you messages if someone were to back you up. If anything, you can even ask backers to spread the word. Be sure to also research your target audience. Who will be most likely to support you? Research similar projects, why they succeeded, why they failed? Are there any consistent patterns? Have your rewards prepared early: better to receive something early than late. Include a bio of yourself, how you'll use your product, and list a call to action.

    That's what I learned so far :)

The best tip for my campaign was to line every single person up who I knew to back it on day one. I hit 50% funded within 24 hours and am still funding for the rest. The last five percent is proving tricky though!

I'm a week into my current campaign, but hoping we get funded. We're at 9% currently, but hoping we get a lot further pretty soon. I definitely wish we had a better PR setup at launch. Most folks who I asked for advice (who work in PR, or otherwise) said I should have a marketing plan, but that most of the money should come from friends and family...however, our funding target being at 45k, that's a pretty hefty amount of funding to come from folks we know personally. I figured we'd get maybe around 10% from that, maybe 20% if we were lucky, but the hardest part at the moment is figuring out how to expand our audience beyond just the folks we know and have reached.
