Good question! I would recommend beginning to explain what Kickstarter is to your friends and family. Also, start to get a mailing list going and the website up, if you haven't already.

The things that I can suggest are:

1 - pre-kickstarter audience - you need them to get a boost at the very start of your campaign
2 - A video of yourself or your product/project
3 - Roadmap until the completion of your product/project
4 - Build the audience trust from first impression

(easy to come up with a list but hard to do)
