How come nobody hardly responds on here?

    by cowlishaw » Sat Jan 31, 2015 5:55 pm

Is it just me - or is this forum pretty slow all-around? :/

Also, I've been running a campaign for nearly 16 now and it's got 11 days left and is close to 20% funded. I contacted all my 1,300 friends on Facebook by direct message. I've been posting to Instagram 2-3 times a day to 50,000 followers. I submitted a press release to over 65 outlets nearly two weeks ago with no response. EVERYONE tells me my photography is amazing and they wish they could support the project but they are dirt broke and flying by the seat of their pants.

Is it just that time of year?

I'm looking for some inspiration because I'm feeling pretty discouraged. On the other hand I'm grateful for the 60 backers that I already have behind me but my campaign is getting close to its end. I really need something big to happen; some sort of BIG BREAK!

    Ideas and responses are appreciated.

    Nate

I started my first campaign yesterday. I'm no specialist so I'm not sure what kind of advice to give you. But I'll just tell you some few things I considered coming to Kickstarter. I really wish for you to get that big break and succeed, but in case that doesn't happen, I think the grass actually looks a lot greener than you think.

Why do I think so? For myself personally, this Kickstarter is not about making the money but getting the attention. Even if it doesn't work out, I know it's just a matter of time before I make it. So I still plan on moving forward with my project. Your page shows that you have about 68 backers and that's actually pretty good. And I'm sure that through this Kickstarter you got the word out and a lot more people noticed you. Maybe after you could go with Indiegogo and invite your backers to support you there; not for a drop in quality, but this time to start with a smaller goal and grow along the way.

So look on the bright side. You have gained lots of attention and count me as a +1 who likes your work. You have my pledge now. And in case it doesn't succeed, should you decide to follow Indiegogo or a different venture, you'll see me there.

    Take care.

    Julian.

Julian... I'll try to reciprocate when I get paid in a few days! - Most of these backers I've been able to accrue, finally, over the last few days was a result of sending direct messages to my followers on Instagram. I've come to realize that my greatest asset is to get my butt in gear and try and contact as many of them as possible. Thank you for the support, and responding to my thread! :)

Haha. I guess it depends on when people have time to come on. I started the forum and used to come on every day, though recently I've had to scale back my hours to once or twice a week.

It's sort of meant to be a resource also, so that people can look back through bits of advice others have given for other projects and share their stories and such. At the very least, a place where you can receive positive encouragement, some feedback, and also support others.

I was surprised to see only 7 backers at the $1 level. Did you have that tier from the start? Perhaps by encouraging people and let them know that even just $1 will be welcome? I just backed you at that. Best of luck!

Sorry to see your project didn’t get the attention it needed and I totally understand where you are coming from. I’m trying my hand at Kickstarter for the second time, the first being an unsuccessful photo book project I wanted to do and I hope it goes better this time. I really don’t know what the key is to getting the right amount of attention. I only have around a hundred friends on facebook and the only ones that have pledged to my project are family! These are people I hang out with and worked with and would regularly spend more on lunch for each other on a daily basis than what I’ve asked for. I mean a dollar pledge would be great.

I’ve got the word out to several forums and websites and I’m looking into any professional services that promote campaigns. But I still haven’t found the secret key to Kickstarter success. On one message board my posts have been viewed over 200 times but not a single person has commented.

Kickstarter is a strange monster, and truly, I believe it is %100 luck based.
We're at $660/$15,000 raised, but it was all in the first day and then it just stopped.

So, who knows! I just read in Kickstarter's 7 tips for spreading the word that one of their tips was Skywriting. So, clearly, nobody knows.

    Good luck!
