    Kickstarter for foreigners - Sweden

    by H&RStudios » Wed Jan 28, 2015 6:31 am

    Hi Everybody,

we are a Videogame Development studio from Tallinn, and we are trying to figure out the ideal way to use Kickstarter from Sweden (the closest one for us and the only KS-friendly place where we have trusted contacts).

The information on the KS website are kinda lacking, they say you need to be a permanent resident in the country and to have a bank account there, and till there it's fine. But after that it's a mystery.

Could you tell us if one of these two options is feasible?

    1) We set up a sole trader business in Sweden (the Estonian one, despite being a 2-man team, is managed as a Sole Trader as well with one of us being the "main man"). We open a bank account for that sole trader business and we use our swedish trusted contact as creator of the project. That person will be working on out behalf and will be paid for that service but will be no part of the swedish sole trader business. Does this work?

    2) We set up a personal bank account in Sweden (on the name of the person owning the Estonian sole trader) and we still use the Estonian sole trader business, and again we have our contact there working on our behalf as creator of the project/person with permanent residence. Would this work or having the non-swedish based company be a no go? Would registering the Estonian business for VAT in sweden change anything?

It's being extremely difficult to figure out the possibilities allowed and not, any suggestion is welcome!

    Cheers,
    H&R

These questions are a little too technical for me to answer, as I'm not familiar with Swedish law or tax system, but I did put together an article with some steps that you can take to set up a Kickstarter if you are not in one of the approved countries/territories. You can find it here:
