Do the hard work up front and launch strong. You'll get a lot more mileage out of the Kickstarter crowd if you launch strong and are well on your way to your goal the first day.

A tribe is at least 10 people (or 100), who will tell 10 people, and that have a debit or credit card, who know how to use the internet and social media, and who will become a “ride or die” supporter and spread the word about your campaign.
This tribe is usually made up of your family and social media friends.
(I think of a tribe as campaign volunteers, you are asking them to commit, not just donate and walk away)

    I love this tip!

Put thought into your rewards and make sure they align in some way to the overarching theme of your project.

Thanks for the "taxes" tip...very easy to forget something as important as the taxes on profits!

To start my Kickstarter campaign, email was definitely the big winner. Organizing all my old email lists and contacting everyone or anyone who sent me an email recently.

I was surprised by who sponsored and who didn't. Old friends and contacts came out of the woodwork.
    The response was quite affirming.

I am now one week into my campaign, 90% funded and pivoting more to social outreach, PR, etc.

I spent literally DAYS and countless man hours prepping for my first KS campaign, and thought I had everything just right. Out of the gates, even with some of the "tribe," as was mentioned earlier, we still stalled at just a couple hundred bucks after about half of a day. So I got on Word, typed out several email templates, based on the different demographics of people I was trying to reach (college friends, family, co-workers, colleagues, etc) and catered each email differently depending on the person.

So for example, I knew my college friends were poor, so I asked them more to spread the word than to donate. My family, I made it about being a passion project, a dream as a filmmaker, etc. For co-workers/fellow filmmakers, it was about helping to create a local, independently produced film.

I spent hours writing these out, compiling lists, and finally, at the end of Day 1, with still just a couple hundred bucks in the KS bank, I blasted them out, and went to bed.

I woke up the next morning to see $1,500 of our $5,000 goal was raised.

I can't speak enough for the incredible power of email.

Remember people: FB posts and tweets can get easily lost in the shuffle, especially with how fast people scroll through Newsfeeds now. Emails are direct, and the perfect email pitch can make or break your Kickstarter.

Thanks Ben , something to get on with , your right FB posts can get lost and email is more personal. Nice one. H

I can say that planning who will be sure to support and back you first. Get them to bombard the site with backs on the day...

I did send emails to all of contacts -- most individual - some in a group, but I haven't seen any results yet. I'll hope that email does indeed get people sharing and supporting our new project!

HI , yes , so true email I've read is a real must. I ve been looking at all my emails and made a list.
I plan to send out a pre press release letter to get everyone in the know and ready. Ill be asking them to email me if they wish to support in anyway, and that ill be sending them an update before it goes live. Also i have a plan to send out the press release to many blogs and ask them if they can make it go live on the monday morning ( form what i heard is a good day to go live )
Ive already started to tease the social followers on twitter and Facebook , so once I'm ready with content and link ill post to them too. I read that trying to get people back to the link pushes your campaign on the front page. So does anyone know or tried or used someone that can send out back links or traffic back to your campaign link ? H
