@vatman - Matthew, you're actually ahead of the game. Nice! Most successful kickstarters get started early. The 90 days before the kickstarter begins is full of data mining for relevant blogs, authors, and related marketing strategies from other kickstarters. That's just the start. Afterwards email marketing and if you're lucky, you'll score at least one major blog to back your release with a press embargo until the Kickstarter is launched.
Seems like your project just might be perfect for TNW or Lifehacker. A source of news with a majority of tech-loving 25-35 year old males. If you haven't already, talk to potential users or buyers to understand who exactly they are. My guess is above, but research is what will give you a much better picture. Once you know who they are, craft messages directly targeted towards them. For example, if they are 25-35 tech-loving males, brainstorm humorous uploads you could post on 9Gag, Imgur, and Reddit. Start now on these communities. Research and look for similar posts, and see how you can mimic them until you get a lot of Fry from Futurama replies that say "TAKE MY MONEY!"
