    Kickstarter Boosters? Are they legit?

    by Scylla » Fri Aug 22, 2014 11:59 pm

    Hey guys,

So I've been recently having trouble getting exposure to my kickstarter campaign for my online indie game:
    http://kck.st/1q0Z1wj

It's weird because my Steam Greenlight is doing extremely well, we're most likely going to get greenlit, here's a link in case you're wondering:
    http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =303230530

Anyways, seeing as I'm not getting much traffic at all, I was thinking of going into search rank boosters, but I have a few questions.

My first question is, does this seem ethical for people to do? Would it be frowned upon if I were to pay for my search rank to get boosted?

My second question is, I stumbled upon this site:
    http://www.boostyourcampaign.com/

Has anyone used it before? I want to know if its legit and if it can actually help bring people to look at my Kickstarter campaign.

I checked the stats on my link:
    http://kck.st/1q0Z1wj+

The link has been clicked at least 450 times, but my search rank on kickstarter is very low in the "Video Games" category.

TL;DR, is: http://www.boostyourcampaign.com/ legitimate? Does it work? Has anyone found success from it?

    Okay this is very strange.

I got a message from someone from the kickstarter booster site I posted in my original post.
I replied to him, and he replied back. He told me that the package will help but he was honest and said
that it wouldnt be enough and I would still need to contact the press and do social media marketing on my own.
But he said the package will definitely boost my rank, didn't specify at all how much though.

So I thought hm, it still might be worth $90 to at least try right?

Well I went to reply back to him, and his Kickstarter account was deleted......

    What the hell?

Have only found this comment about them: http://www.scamorg.com/boostyourcampaign-com-4c

Yea, a lot of these companies seem to rely on contacting creators on Kickstarter to get business, which if they do a lot, gets them banned. Whether or not they are helpful, we have to rely on reviews and there aren't many right now.

I received a couple of messages like this as well. My project is small and not really commercial as I am just trying to make people smile. I don't know what the best way to go about marketing it is because it is difficult for me to justify spending that much on a project that is only looking for a $250 limit. I think I should steer clear of this and just work with what I have, are there any free advertising sites that might be geared more towards humanitarian type projects? I just feel icky about the booster messages I get. Am I wrong to feel that way?

Hi there, my name's Christopher btw... I see you're having trouble with social media marketing and getting some exposure for your game. I highly recommend that you atleast try out our site and see if we can help you raise funds for your game. Visit us at dosocial.com. At DoSocial, we can avail PR services to you and we'll get your campaign noticed quickly through multiple social media outlets at an affordable price. If you doubt the credibility of our services atleast try out our site, as I and the owner of the site itself will accommodate to your needs to give you the best of what you paid for.

And just to prove that we're interested in helping you and that I have read through your comments and even went to check out your game. Your game looks awesome man, tell you that much (used to be a game dev too before I started working as a social media manager). It gives me nostalgic chills down my spine and reminds me of late GBA SD games just before NDS became a thing a decade ago. Your gameplay could use a bit of cleaning up but that's what the funds you need is going to help you with, right?

Well, we can help you with that Scylla, just give us a shot! :)

Hey thanks for the feedback, I don't think my current campaign is going to be successful though.
Does your website work on indiegogo as well or just Kickstarter?

And I'll definitely clean up the gameplay video.

I've had a few contact me directly through Kickstarter and they've shared a link that had all the business they've claimed to help. Some acknowledged that they indeed take them up on their services but I also found some that had no idea who this company was but were using their information as past business.
