Twitter is another good place to promote the project. Also try to use Thunderclap before the campaign launch. It really helps to coordinate a mass message send out from our supporter’s Facebook and Twitter profiles on the same day at the exact same time in order to achieve the maximum effect.

Today I launched my first Kickstarter. I have not received word back from the websites I emailed a week ago accept for one. That lead seems to be dead at this point. All were very much the type of website that posts products like mine.

There are more in my list so I will keep pushing but I have decided to give thegadgetflow a shot. I will let you all know how it goes. The plan is to direct them to my website in place of the Kickstarter because it is a bit more navigation friendly as far as the products go and has tons of KS links. Wish me luck!

If you can do it right, Reddit can give you thousands of hits. Now, something to understand: Reddit users don't like promotion. You have to be clever. I'm not talking about spamming, don't misunderstand me. Spam absolutely doesn't work on Reddit.

But if your project addresses a need or fills a gap, you can link to it in an otherwise useful post. Don't act like the project isn't yours, but don't draw undo attention to your link, either.

I have been trying to figure out how to do this for a while. I posted something random a while back and it got 170,000 views in one day on imgur. I would definitely like to have that sort of success with a KS link.

Making the link prominent will apparently get your post deleted. "No self promotion" is their rule for most subreddits.

I would like to get someone to write an article about my project, then link to that article. It adds a degree of separation between me and my project that might just be what it needs to not get removed.

That can work, of course. A great place to post your article is Medium.com. It's a beautiful blogging platform, and its domain lends a bit of additional separation.

The key is, usually, to be subtle.

Is it allowable to find a similar campaign and then cross-promote? Like, put a blurb about theirs in yours and vice versa? Or is that just a bad idea altogether?

It seems like it would be best to cross promote with an unrelated product. If you are directly competing, then one of you will probably loose to the other. Ideally you would have the same target audience but not be competing like one company kickstarting a keyboard and another a mouse. I think its a tough call, and have done so sparingly.

I think that cross promoting in your item description is not a good idea; however, many creators cross promote in their UPDATES, usually at the end of page.
