Looking for advice on Connection Deck (sneak peek)

    by ConnectionDeck » Fri Nov 07, 2014 9:37 pm

We're 13 days until launch, and I'm hoping we can get some feedback from the Kickstarter Forum community.

Our current project page is here:

NOTE: Our videographer is still putting together our video, but it will include details on the deck itself, why we think parents will be thrilled with Connection Deck, a bit about the artistic side, and testimonials from a well respected counselor who works with profoundly gifted children and a mother and doula.

    All feedback is welcome!

Most important - if you're a parent, a teacher, a counselor who works with children or just have children in your life who are important to you: What further information would you need before you would consider buying Connection Deck?

Needs pictures. Most people who back Kickstarters don't actually read the campaign page. They already learned about it from an external source (media) and are there to pledge, or just scroll through to get a quick jist of the project. Pictures can be worth 1000 words.

Your goal seems kinda high for printing cards. Maybe it's just me, but why does it cost so much to print them?

Heh... yeah, we just did a major re-edit and lost all our pictures! We'll be adding pictures of ourselves shortly, and by launch date will have pictures of the prototype cards.

We struggled a lot with how much to ask for. $24,000 covers basic printing cost for a run of 2000 decks, each deck with around 90 cards, plus good quality packaging for them. 2000 is a major price point, so while we could do a run of , say, 500 it would mean that we'd make less off of each deck, and because we have to work the rest of the costs into the amount, a 2000 run will let us cover the other costs involved in making a good deck, but barely! We were initially going to ask for more, but realized that if we held it down to just the printing costs for a run of 2000 decks, we could meet the other costs.

The cost is based on a combination of quotes we've received, and the costs for both runs of the Group Works deck that were done. Having worked on a similar successful project in the past, and with Aimée's print expertise, we're able to make a fantastic product, but it costs money to make durable, glossy, high-colour cards!
