If you haven't read this article about how Kickstarter sorts projects on their Popular page it is a must read.
http://www.prefundia.com/blog/hacking-kickstarters-popular-algorithm-how-to-become-most-popular/Basically, you HAVE to launch strong in the first 24 hours. You have to build up your own list of backers to "prime the pump" before launching. Otherwise you'll find yourself after 24 hours having fallen so far dow the popularity page that your chances of the Kickstarter general traffic finding you will have become almost zero.
We worked hard on the last project I did ($115K raised) to build our prelaunch list of backers so that when we hit launch we sent an email to 600 people who had asked to get notified of our launch. Met our goal within 10 hours and then went on to be over 1000% funded.
