I'm a master at #5, I get rejected on the daily!
On Day 1, I wasn't marketing myself in such a sophisticated manner as this, such as maintaining an Excel spread with contact information acquired off of LinkedIn and such, but I definitely knew how to hustle. Maybe it's cos I have no shame, but I've contacted EVERYONE about my card game that on Kickstarter right now--even videogame publications such Kotaku and Screw Attack. I also threw in a couple emails to the big gaming corporations like Capcom and Konami.
I was lucky enough to make a friend along the way who passed me a list of people to contact in the biz. I spent 9 1/2 hours going down the list, emailing just about everyone on planet Earth, or that's how it felt. But after doing so, my inbox jumped literally by 180 emails in one day (excluding new pledges)! Many--MANY-- of them were flat out rejections, with someone calling me a "tospot" somewhere in there. But it was totally worth it.
Why? Because now I'm building that list. I have an Excel spread I'm working off of. So, this is how you make friends when you don't have friends. Lol. But it's also how you could potentially make enemies, so be careful! The author's suggestions are much safer!
