The video was interesting for sure. I actually had a crazy realization with my own campaign this past week. I just launched my Kickstarter and of course I started a FB ad campaign.
For context, you can see my Kickstarter in my signature, but it's a sci-fi novel and geared very directly to a crowd that likes sci-fi (duh). but once I'd set the targeting for my campaign, I looked at the categories that MY campaign said people would like based on THEY'RE likes. Know what the top supposed "similar interest group" was?
People who like Nikki Minaj.
Yeah… no.
Not that I'll judge anyone's music taste but ah… I have a hunch that people who make a point of mentioning listening to Nikki aren't exactly the people who are going to be joining my Kickstarter campaign for a novel about aliens and people with powers.
So after I changed my focus and tweaked a few things, Nikki dropped off my supposed "similar interest group", and the top choices were people who like Call of Duty and Ender's Game, both things that are way WAY closer to my target demographic.
But after three days of campaigning, I still have a grand total (as of this posting) of 19 website clicks from a $60 budget for a 1 week campaign, no engagement on my Kickstarter, and no engagement on my FB author page.
In short, I'm not sure if my campaign is working or even being shown to REMOTELY the right audience. It's a bit upsetting, to say the least.
