They won't promote you unless you have a relationship to leverage within the company, or unless you are a large brand who can bring more eyeballs to their site with your campaign.

Word of mouth is definitely the grassroots way to go, but can take some time to jump start. However, having a solid product will help cause your direct network to promote for you.
