Personally, I believe that there are virtually an infinite number of reasons why people back Kickstarter projects. I have backed projects for different reasons, and any given project might not strike various people the same way.

I've backed projects that I knew would not make it, and I've backed projects that had already reached their funding goals, before I encountered them. To me, every project has a unique quality about it, although project pages often suffer from the same maladies. People seem Hell-bent on re-learning the same lessons, over and over and over.

It's not always the project, itself, that grabs my eye or commands my attention. Sometimes, it's the creator(s).

I agree with you SomewhereOutThere. I've enjoyed becoming a part of this community as it has opened up a new world for me. There are so many people out there doing creative things, being socially responsible, taking risks, being innovative and having a go at trying to get some support.

Projects are backed for two reasons Impact or Incentives
A project that offers a benefit to society or one that makes a difference is a great way to get backers onboard.

Projects are also backed because of incentives (perks or rewards). Backers love tangible incentives, so be sure to offer incentives that you would want.

It’s going to be hard to get someone that doesn’t know you to donate, but they will donate if it’s something they like. It burns my bridges (as my grandmother would say) when people offer thanks you’s and shout outs – who wants that?
I want to see what’s in your campaign “Goodie bag.”

Show me the Goodies and I’ll show you the money.
