I'm in the same boat as many of you. I still have 3 weeks before my project ends but it has been a lot harder than I thought it would be to find backers. Luckily my project is small and I am not trying to "hit it rich" the first time out. I set it up so that even for $1 people would get something tangible, and could add on from there. I boosted several posts on Facebook and I saw the ads reaching a lot of people, and people were actually finding my FB page and liking it. So far though, it has not translated into backers. I still have direct messages and emails to send out to friends and family, but I was really hoping that people in the Comic Book scene would be interested. Maybe it will still pick up. Wish me luck!

I have to say I'm surprised that there's not more of the community discovery side of things happening on my Kickstarter project. It's one of the chief reasons I went with Kickstarter over other platforms like Indiegogo (the perception that the community of people simply looking for projects to back was larger and more passionate) but as of this morning, 99% of my backers have come from my personal outreach to people I know, not through discovery of the project by people I don't know browsing the site. It's not disheartening so much as surprising.

Still, all the more reason to hold close to your heart the notion of "you get what you put into it." Until that fairy dust comes our way, that is...

@shooplor - Definitely! Glad they are useful.

@evan4maier - I grew up outside of Boston (near Concord, MA). Yea - some projects seem to be embraced by the Kickstarter community more than others. I've seen projects where 90% comes from friends/family and others where 5% comes from family/friends.

@sbriggman - Oh man, Concord is gorgeous. I, myself, lived away from MA for a long time but was just drawn back. There's nothing quite like New England.

As for the community, I get the impression a lot of that community support simply comes from visibility algorithms. The likelier one's project is to be featured on the Kickstarter Featured section or homepage based on whatever algorithms they use the likelier, I would think, of people seeing and ultimately embracing it.

I posted my Kickstarter campaign just a few days ago and am hoping to learn everything I can to make it a success...
I'll be looking over all of the posts and see where else I can promote it. So hard when you're doing it alone.

@sbriggman, I completely agree with you. There are several other things that might bring some revenue, however, most of the important things has been listed here. Thank you very much for your contribution OP!
