I've learned that I should build a crowd BEFORE launching a project. Even if my Kickstarter is interesting, if no one sees it then it might fail.

I agree with all of the comments here and would also like to add that we should have factored into our budget additional advertising and promotion costs.
It's great to be contacted by companies who can help with this - particularly when you are a twitter novice - however starting costs of $600 are a shock, especially if you cannot be guaranteed you will get your funding!
I am also still navigating twitter etiquette and how to get people to follow you and hopefully retweet your posts. I haven't been too successful with that!
There is far more preparation than just the Kickstarter story, budget and photos to get the campaign going.

What "Free" method is everyone using to promote and draw people to their facebook page? Everywhere I turn, there are costs and we do not have a ton of dough to throw around. Any advice?

Just lots of "public" posts and getting good friends to also post to their friends so that you know it gets seen my loads of different people.

I have received many 'likes' this way and got my project seen. Still need to turn them into pledges!

We are in the middle of our first campaign. I would have to agree with the first comment its very important to get a strong following before you launch. We started an instagram and gained some followers. We also had a "coming soon page" where we collected emails for people that wanted to know when the campaign would start. This has helped us get off to a decent start. However we should have done much more of that and planed our launch for a few months earlier with a seasonal product.

So if you are just starting out... take it slowly and plan ahead. Start building a buzz and a demand for your campaign long before you launch. Starting out with a bang is very important.

Wise words James. Even though now I feel as though our campaign is not going to be fully funded I have learnt a lot and will try again and do things very differently.

Everyone says you need to following, but when I click the 'Music Video' tab or just 'Music', I find that a lot of artist reach their goals with no followers from twitter,tumblr, facebook, etc. Where do you think someone like Casie Luong might have reached her goal?
