It's a lot of work! It's also exciting, but challenging. My project is a middle-grade novel called "Double Z: Day of the Mantid". Although I'm a 5 time published children's author, I have never done a Kickstarter or any self-publishing. I am jazzed! I wish I had started promotion, etc. earlier. This has been a big learning curve. I would LOVE feedback on my project. I would be very grateful for any pointers or comments.

I've learned that getting a project backed is much harder than you think it will be. Regardless of if the project is for Charity or to assist men and women in the armed services people still don't want to support your project.

I've learned that you can be mobbed by promotional scams. My project is pretty modest, but from day one I was getting generic emails offering promotional services with high costs.

Do you happen to know how to create campaign for non-us, uk, etc.. citizens? For example for people from Czech Republic, Germany or Poland?

I am a little over a week in to my project and it's been a very big learning experience and a bit humbling as well. The biggest thing I am learning is running a kickstarter campaign is a full time job, and marketing and PR are huge!

I've been helping my wife with a Kickstarter for her ceramic project. Interesting, the process of creating the Kickstarter video, text and rewards helped her define her product and her pricing. I think it's the effort of developing a complete marketing campaign that forces a person to lock down exactly what the project is.

I think we could have done a better job in describing the project and what makes it special. Also, in the video, we think we should have described what a Kickstarter is.

This. I didn't realize what PR people do. Making relationships over the internet is non-trivial...

We are just a little over a week in to, and it has been quite the learning experience as you mentioned. There is always someone to try and reach out to, and out to again. It's been a lot of fun interacting locally at events and online, but it's been exhausting without as much payout as we'd hoped, but nonetheless we are learning and staying positive.

I think that you need to have a great promotional idea to promote and convince about your project to the people to get more funding. It is not as simple as creating a campaign and leaving it to be successful on its own.
