    Recommendations for Crowdfunding SEO companies?

    by laurencohen » Tue Nov 05, 2013 6:10 pm

I am looking into the possibility of enlisting a company to manage the SEO marketing for this Kickstarter Campaign:

Any recommendations? Obviously, I prefer personal rec's from people that have ran Kickstarter campaigns.

    Thanks!

Hmm.. I don't know any SEO marketing companies off the top of my head. SEO marketing is kind of a weird topic for a crowdfunding campaign. In my experience, the best SEO marketing is content marketing, which usually requires time to take effect unless you are guest posting.

This is an old thread but I see it was brought back to life, and it's something I know about. As an SEO company :-) I can tell you that you shouldn't try to do a 30 day magic pill for your campaign - it takes time. But, you can utilize it indirectly. For my Kickstarter campaign, we are tying it to our website that's already well-optimized and ranking well. So when people find that website with relevant keywords, we display ads that direct them to the campaign. The challenge though, is that when people search for websites, they aren't generally a crowdfunding audience, as I'm quickly discovering.

Another thing to keep in mind if you piggyback on a well-optimized website, is that you need to be careful about hurting the rankings of that website itself. Too many outbound links to the same site, if done incorrectly, can hurt you, as can putting a huge banner on top of your homepage (we actually did it for a few days to see if we could drive traffic, then demoted it).

Can anyone enlighten me as to what the benefit SEO would have on a kickstarter campaign? Crowd funding is typically for new products so I can't see that anyone would be searching for it in google. Not to mention that it will be running for only a few weeks, and so any benefit would be short lives.

I'm happy to be wrong though, if anyone has a good explanation for me!

@bitofageek - Yea, typically SEO takes months to build up. I can see it having a positive effect if you start 6 months before the campaign and create a landing page/business page that you begin to get links to (which then will redirect to your campaign page). This way when journalists google your name, they will see a bunch of articles linking to your site/keywords and that you have traction.

I can also see running a campaign has having a positive SEO effect on your business after Kickstarter - you just have to make sure you direct all new stories, blog articles, and links to your personal web page (landing page that maybe redirects) NOT your kickstarter page, otherwise your Kickstarter page will freeze after funding and you can't direct that traffic to other products or areas of your business. In addition - the SEO benefits will go to Kickstarter, not your website.

    Cool, thanks Sal.

From a user experience point of view I'd rather link people directly to the Kickstarter page so they can pledge immediately after viewing the campaign. Adding an extra step for them (ie sending them to a landing page and making them click through to the kickstarter page) seems counter-productive.

That campaign as a whole is excellent (and I'll definitely be taking notes!) but the landing page makes no sense to me. If I've read it correctly, they're linking people to a landing page which tells them to Like or Tweet about a product - before they've even been pitched about it or had an opportunity to see the pledge rewards. I think I'd rather get people straight on to my Kickstarter page so they can see exactly what is being pitched and easily access the functionality to pledge. The "please Like and Tweet about our product" could easily be something that sits on the Kickstarter page without the need for another landing page.

Cheers for the link though! Brilliant resource.

@bitofageek - You inspired me to write an article on the topic: http://www.crowdcrux.com/3-reasons-to-u ... -campaign/

Would love to read any counter-points you might have via a comment. Everyone is new in the crowdfunding space and I think the best methods are still being determined.
