    Re-launching a campaign

    by pd7 » Mon Feb 10, 2014 3:06 pm

My campaign ended on Feb. 2nd, but only garnered 27% of the goal amount. I'm planning to relaunch within 3.5 weeks of the end date with a lower goal, which I have communicated to all backers from round 1. I have also continued promoting our social sites and trying to build a base following. Aside from that, does anyone have any great advice for relaunching a campaign? And/or any insights from those who have gone through the process? Thanks.

Hey Pd7 - There are a few creator's I've interviewed who have relaunched their campaign with success. I've included the articles below. Please leave a comment on any articles you find to be helpful :).

How is life? I suggest posting here, since most of us are creators you may get some great tips.

After I ship my rewards I have to switch to buildiing my Etsy shop and my own website, but by mid april I will launch again..... About two weeks before the launch of my third campaign I will host the preview on pitchfuse and run a giveaway as well as post the preview here and see if anyone can help with some constructive criticism.

The one piece of advice is to stay in touch with your backers from round one. I did not do the following, the idea popped into my head right now.... what about writing every backer a personal email of thanks. No mention of the relaunch. Just a thank you. I always wrote thank you letters when I sold furniture, but I never included a card or asked for future sales. If you don't have the time, then maybe a mass message of thanks?

What every second of these limbo days should be working towards is making sure 90% of your precious backers repledge ON DAY ONE.

    Why?

Because --unless they have changed the algorithm-- KS calculates the number of pledges in a given period of time.....NOT HOW MUCH THE PLEDGE IS.

I think it is part of the ethos of the site, to level the playing field.. It is like how the words and advice in the comment section of a project of a dollar backer have the same effect of s thousand dollar backer. It is human nature. Perhaps the creator or lurkers may give more weight to a backer if there was a little number next to their comment indicating they had pledged $1,000.

This is also why running a pitchfuse soft launch will help, you may find people who want to help but don't have a lot of cash. Once they know (by you telling them) how important pledging on Day One is, you may find someone who will bird dog for you during your entitre campaign.

Also, every creator should back about 20 projects. For one, you can learn a lot from other creators on how they Update. They may teach you what not to do as much as what you may incorporate in your own campaign. Plus, it shows others that you are part of the community and practice what you preach.

Also you can post a pledge drive the day before you launch. I think Sal stickies pledge drives and you can squire a lot of dollar backers for Day One. All you can ask is that everyone who pledges to pledge the first day of your relaunch. If you get enough pledges you may end up on the coveted main Popular page. This will give you visibility and could help the project go viral.

    Just a quick question here:
Kickstarter only accept "new" idea on hardware garage category.
Isn't re-launch making it an "old" one?

Thanks for the great responses. Sal, I commented on some of the useful tips/info. I got from the articles. Uly, as always, useful insight.

I would like to get more details on running a giveaway on Pitchfuse.com I've only found general information and I'm still unclear on how the 'top entrant recruit' category works. Please direct me to where I can read more.

I have not drilled down on piitchfuse yet (I am in postage and shipping mode now) but hopefully Sal will respond as I too would like to know the semantics. I think it has to do with whomever shares the preview link during the soft launch time frame.

@pd7 - So we are in beta phase with PitchFuse and have gotten an overwhelming response with the giveaways. We have been setting them up by hand to this point, so we're now building an interface where you can easily create one yourself. I'm not sure if we can take on any more giveaways until that time.

Regarding the top recruit, when a user signs up for a giveaway, they are presented with a unique URL that they can use to spread the giveaway. When someone in their network clicks through to the giveaway, it says "you were referred by ___. You can enter the giveaway below." If the person chooses to enter, then I, as the referrer, get a point.

When you say that the top recruiter gets a prize, then the person who referred the most people via their individual link to the giveaway will get the prize.

For example, I referred one person to this giveaway (who then entered their email): http://pitchfuse.com/giveaway/chromosom ... lection/63

Underneath the giveaway, it says I am the top recruiter for this giveaway. If someone else referred 2 people who then entered, they would be the top recruiter.

This website is really early stage, so in the coming weeks we'll be adding more detail (FAQ page, better design, easier admin functionally, etc).
