Improvements to my campaign? My first project KS

    by mk01 » Tue Jan 28, 2014 9:35 pm

    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/18 ... l-world-la

I know it is not perfect but has been going very well, however I can see it is stopping now with 1-3 backers in the last 2 days.

I hope it will get funded but was wondering if you could give me some advise and tips here what I could improve and where to advertise. Discussion boards are tricky as they treat that as an advert :-(

    What I have added/done:
    - facebook fanpage
    - twitter
    - regular updates

Is it a good idea to offer a bonus for Backers? Is it allowed?

    Thanks!

    Hi Marius,

It would be good to see what sort of social networking you've done for this. Can we take a look? On that note, you should link your twitter and Facebook accounts to your Kickstarter page. I clicked on your contact information and it seemed very sparse - if I can't see your social network accounts, backers can't either!

Have you been contacting any blogs or press websites about this at all? What sort of marketing have you done around it?

    Cheers.

    Thanks BitofaGeek,

    My facebook page
    https://www.facebook.com/ccnalabs

Does not seem to give me an option to add a facebook page in kickstarter? I used it as a link under my picture

I tried to post it on some discussion boards but most of them removed my post as it was treated as an advert. It stayed on 3 forums, around 1000 views in total.
I have used linkedin and mentioned about my project in Cisco and CCNA groups.
I emailed Cisco Discussion Board and asked if it is ok to start a topic like this - pending.
I invested some money in facebook adverts and got 130 likes in 3 days.

I am looking for more ideas now :)

Go to "Me" in the top right of Kickstarter, then choose My Profile. Then click "Edit my Profile". In the "websites" section here, you can link to any relevant sites you may have (your company website, your product blog, facebook, twitter, G+, etc). Adding these links will add to your credibility and give potential backers more faith in you, because they can see you have a good web presence.

Forums are a tricky one. Most Kickstarter posts will be ignored and/or viewed as spam, especially if you've only just registered. Ideally you'll have been participating in a forum's community for a few months and gaining a good reputation before posting about your Kickstarter campaign. I realise that isn't realistic though, because being active on dozens of forums for months is an exhausting task. I think you've taken the right approach with Cisco's discussion board by asking them before posting - perhaps you should do that with other forum owners, too.

How have you been targetting your Facebook ads, and what messaging have you been using? These sorts of things are important to get absolutely right, because otherwise you'll be displaying your ad to uninterested people, and thus throwing your money away.

Let me know what your Facebook ads are like and we'll be able to think of how to fine-tune them together.

    Cheers.

    Thanks,
I added my facebook page a few days ago as you described. Is it not showing in a way it should?

Facebook - yeah.... I promoted my page and some posts, got quite a few clicks and likes but my topic and project is very specific. I managed to post it on dsl forum - I explained it was in fact an almost non-profit project.

We will see... still 23 days to go, hope will be ok!

I would post more from your Facebook page, multiple times a day. Even if its just news. Follow Tech Crunch, and Verge on facebook and see how there running there Facebook pages. Also use twitter, since your running a campaign that involves solving problems, you could look for potential backers on twitter. Run a search for people asking questions in your field of expertise and go out there and answer it. for free. then after helping send them a link to your campaign. in doing so ask them even if they dont back just to retweet or share it with someone that would be interested.
