Hey Everyone!
When someone asks me which social media platform is the BEST to use to promote a crowdfunding campaign, it's hard to give a definitive answer. Most of the time with my clients, I like to target both social media platforms as that way more 'ground' is covered. I can understand time may be an issue for some people, but then again; crowdfunding cannot be rushed. If you don't have the time to prepare effectively you may need to recruit some extra help.
If you don't have an advertising budget, generally Twitter is easier to build a following on. Twitter can be used as a more intimate way to connect with followers and people of interest, as that is just how the site works. Tweets are short and concise and interacting with customers and supporters is considered a fast-paced action, more so than Facebook is. There are also a few 'tricks' you can use to build a fanbase quite quickly but I won't get into that right now.
Facebook is a little different. As giftsandcoupons said, you need to offer something if you wish to quickly build up a fanbase. Competitions can be a great thing to do, but make sure you do it properly. Through competitions you can also offer incentives for sharing your page around, i.e bonus entries. If you do have an advertising budget, I'd recommend giving Facebook a try as well. You can 'boost' posts towards a target group of people who may have interested in backing a campaign like yours. It's hard to explain in a short paragraph but I will make a post on my blog when I get the chance as well.
TDLR; The best platform for you will depend on the project you are planning on running. If you have the time, give both a try.
Cheers all!
Jake
