A backers that harass you and asking for a refund!

    by Jwen » Mon Oct 17, 2016 6:21 pm

A quick share with our experience with this tremendous annoying backers name MJ Farley here is his KS profile https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/2126319650

Would you refund this person?? After more than 30 days harassing your campaign and encourage other backers to attack the creator + reporting the campaign to Kickstarter for unreasonable reason.
He putting a fake pledge of $2,000 after the creator adding a stretch goal and then reduce the pledge slowly so other backers think that the creator losing backers one by one when actually only this person reducing his pledge slowly and on the last day he overslept and forgot to cancel his pledge so basically we still have $1,000 of his fake pledge with us....

Now he is begging us to refund him... What do you guys think about this kind of backers?

The messed up part is after more than 5 or 6 emails to Kickstarter about his activity on our page, this person still have his account and there is no significant action taken by Kickstarter. (Apparently, this kind of behaviour was acknowledged by Kickstarter and it was ok to do....)

I personally don't think you should "out" this guy, rather deal with it internally.

He's backed x45 projects, that's not bad. If he backed you but didn't mean to, that's his problem. Let him take it up with Kickstarter. In terms of his comments, you could ignore them or answer them.

Other people looking at his comments aren't going to be put off by you and your product, if he comes across as being agressive or annoying, then that's his profile and doesn't reflect on what you're doing.

Wow what a story! First of all thanks for sharing. Yeah you should definitely make that somehow public, even if that menas writing something up yourselves. This is something that may not be a problem of that one person, but a threat to all kickstarter campaigns to follow. A blog or a newsarticle, a warning sign or something.. If he backed you that is indeed his problem.
But still, I would probably give him back the money just to show him some goodwill and maybe he will come to his senses. Also you could avoid a shitstorm, if someone having backed that many projects starts complaining there can always be people to follow.

Well is that mean KS ok for their "Superbacker" harassing creator, or there is some immunity to that badge or something?

We try to deal with this internally with him and asking why he did this? We personally never hurt him in any way and ask him to leave us alone (He never been our backers before) we even apologize if any of our reply to his comments offend him but we just want to run a campaign and ship a product. He told us to shut up and basically accused us as a scam artist, try to steal peoples money and want to make sure that our campaign got suspended. (I mean we are not a multi-million dollar campaign or anything, this guys just plain want to mess with us by using his power as a superbacker)

He beg us to refund his money because he need to pay rent and if we didn't refund him in couple days he will get eviction notice and need to sell his kidney or something... But look at all his campaign that he backed, it is not a cheap 3d printer that at least cost him $500 a piece.

I start doubting this guys after everything that he done to us, but keeping his money is just not right because if everything that he said was true then we feel like we take advantage of other people suffering... and we are not that kind of people... On the other hand we just want to teach this kind of people a lesson.
