Would you preview my Kickstarter campaign?

    by pd7 » Mon Dec 30, 2013 11:14 pm

Hi Everyone. I was hoping I could gain some value feedback on my first Kickstarter campaign. I have been approved and planning to launch on Wed. for 32 days. I'm still waffling on my goal amount. Does having a smaller goal make the project look less serious or plausible? The $50k I currently list is very close to my MOQ, but I might be able to reduce a bit.

Also, the reward levels were a challenge because billiard balls don't come in different colors, fabrics, etc so though diversifying the rewards was tough, I think it works?

Any comments/suggestions you can offer is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Let me first say that these look incredible...if you think you'll be able to successfully target billiards communities on the internet I'd say $50K is a reasonable goal...then again, all else equal, the lower the goal, the higher the chance of funding success.

As an amateur pool player, I'd like to see these balls being endorsed somehow, even if it's just quick video clips from clubs and halls that you've tried these out at. You mention everywhere that these are just as good or better than conventional balls, but I still want to see "proof", if you know what I mean. Billiard balls are one of those things that, like you say, haven't changed in so long, that people may automatically assume that there's a good reason for it, even if there's not.

Thanks for taking the time to review and comment. And, you make really good points. At this point it's probably too late for me to modify the video but I will think about someway to address this in the copy. Thanks again.

You can always launch with what you've got and modify the video mid-campaign too...doing that with my campaign right now...never too late!

Good luck! If I had a table at home I'd nab a set in a heartbeat...as it is, I'll be waiting to at least throw a few bucks your way and help get your backer count up.

    PD
I think what Doug mentioned would give the campaign a HUGE boost of credibility.

Is there anyway you can ask a local club to sponsor your campaign???

Maybe loan a set and have everyone sign a release form. Think--scary movie preview, audience being interviewed after the film.
Also--this is a gray area, you have to keep contests off site--maybe go to 4 local clubs on the 4 Friday nights of your campaign. Hand out raffle tickets. For a modest pledge someone gets a ticket. Once you are funded they win a set?

Take the contest with a grain of salt. KS hates raffles and does not allow them inside the space--but if you keep it offline, I think you will be alright. I have held two contests
during my campaign. Nobody participated on twitter but I got moderate traction on Facebook.

Try to contact every Big Name and Influencer in the billiard community. Offer a demo set, and offer a free set if you get funded for any Big Name to mention your campaign on their social network platforms.

Contact local media and try to get a reporter to "shadow" you during the campaign. You will most likely have to teach them about crowd funding. If they write up a piece during the campaign everything could spread laterally and your campaign could become viral.
