I got a call to replace a seamed undermount bowl in a solid surface top yesterday. I found exposed Romex in the cabinet and wanted to make sure I didn't cut through it and the dishwasher supply and drain lines which were run right below the countertop.
I attempt to pull the dishwasher, but it's tiled in. They cranked it right to the top of the countertop, so there's no play room. It may have been possible to lower the feet, but I pulled the top instead. I explained the problem to the customer and she authorized me to pull the dishwasher, lower the feet, and shim the floor flush with the tile which I did.
Had I fixed the sink top without flushing the dishwasher to the tile, the appliance repairman and/or the next homeowner (the house is for sale) would have been seriously screwed.
She blamed the exposed Romex on her ex-husband. Maybe he did the tile job too.
