The Second Girl - Debut Novel

    by MikeTinisser » Fri Nov 07, 2014 1:42 am

Hello Everyone! My name is Mike Tinisser. Thirty days ago I started writing a story over on Reddit's NoSleep subreddit about a guy named Mike who ran into a childhood friend named Betty he hadn't seen since they were six years old. She agreed to meet him later that night for drinks, but she never showed up. It wasn't unusual for Mike to go home alone, but he really thought she was sincere. So much so that he was worried about her. He decided to stop by the hotel she mentioned staying at, just to make sure things were okay.

Instead of Betty, he found an empty room with a photograph on the floor. It was a photo of them as children. On the back the words "Mike" and the second girl were scrawled...next to a bloody fingerprint. He took off in a panic, but soon he noticed he was being followed. A sheriff's car drove by his house over and over throughout the weekend. He began to worry that he was going to be arrested for something he had no clue about, so he set out to find Betty and clear things up before they got out of control. As clue after clue brought him closer to Betty, his moral compass began to go into a tailspin. Right and wrong became very complicated and his own life hung on every choice he made. Why did she have a photograph of them as children? Why did it refer to her as the second girl? More importantly, who took it.

The story spanned 20 posts, or chapters and ended right at 65,000 words. Each post was just a first draft with no real thought behind it actually becoming more than a simple story to entertain people on Reddit. The readers begged for more, forming theories and getting invested in the characters with each chilling cliffhanger. When the final chapter was done, no reader was disappointed...but they wanted more. They wanted to see it edited, turned into a novel, and some even said it should be a movie or a television series.

Honestly, I never expected to see the story take that kind of direction. The feedback blew me away chapter after chapter. I've been writing stories since I was in the 3rd grade and I'm in my thirties now. I've shared some of my work throughout the years and people said it was good, but I never considered myself to be a writer. I just did it for fun. At this point, I feel like I owe it to those who supported me throughout the duration of the story and give them the novel they asked for while opening it up to a whole new group of readers. They gave me the suggestion of going through Kickstarter, which I decided to do. I'd love for you to check out the story.
