"The Lost Shark: Searching for the Art of JAWS"

    Hi everybody!

Did you know that the original painting of JAWS is lost? I am working on a documentary to retrace its steps from creation to disappearance, as well as an effort to recover this lost cultural icon.

The Lost Shark chronicles the disappearance of the original JAWS painting and an effort to recover this lost piece of history.

The Lost Shark: Searching for the Art of JAWS

The Lost Shark: Searching for the Art of JAWS is a documentary feature that chronicles the original JAWS painting by Roger Kastel from it's meteoric rise to iconic status in pop culture to it's ultimate disappearance, as well as an effort to locate and recover this lost piece of cultural history. The film will be a fun journey through the generations of influence this image has had on all of us, while at the same time, showing how art can be mishandled by corporate America.

Many would assume that something like the original JAWS painting would be hanging above Steven Spielberg's fireplace, part of a display in the Smithsonian, or if not one of these, in the possession of it's creator. The fact is that none of these are the case. After a whirl-wind of success as the cover of the paperback release of Peter Benchley's 1974 bestseller, Roger Kastel's masterpiece was whisked away to Hollywood to be photographed for use as the movie poster for the blockbuster-in-the-making film adaptation directed by Steven Spielberg. Unfortunately, it was never seen again.

A goal of $50,000 as been set at Kickstarter. Please make a pledge to this project. There are some nice rewards available to choose from.

“Everyone knows the story of JAWS from the novel and the film, but this painting has an amazing story of its own that really needs to be told.” says Ralph Asbury, who will be directing the documentary.

This project will only be funded if at least $50,000 is pledged by Thursday Jun 20, 1:01pm EDT.

Really interesting concept for a Kickstarter, although, if i'm completely honest, the target does seem quite high. Not saying I'm some guru on this kickstarter thing as I just started my page and think I still need to learn the sweet spot for pledges but I would enjoy to see this documentary and hope the target doesn't stop it from being produced.
