Wow, there are a lot of really interesting ideas here. I'm actually pretty sad that I didn't find this forum sooner.
Here is the project I've been working on along with my husband. He and a college friend have been developing this game for quite a few years, and are finally ready to release.

For those who are familiar with tabletop games (think Dungeons and Dragons), Valor offers a very different, unique experience. The system is very modular, and encourages creativity through high customization. Valor is extremely dynamic, and encourages players to really play their character--be it through shouting attack names or active role play in general, being particularly descriptive, or coming up with unique and interesting ways to solve problems--and rewards them for it.
I've been playing for a few years myself, and coming from other systems (particularly World of Darkness and GURPs), I've had a blast playing. It's something of a sandbox system in that, so long as the campaign has something of a supernatural element to it, it can be run in Valor. I've found it to be very easy to pick up for those who are new to tabletop games, but with a robust and rewarding character creation system for more seasoned players like myself.
We reached goal after less than 12 hours, and just got to our first stretch goal today. We only have a few days left of our campaign, but we're hoping that we can make our second stretch goal.
