    Off to a slow start advice appreciated

    We're at the same point as you right now. Slow starts. I don't really have any advice. But what really helped was friends. We went on facebook, promoted, personally messaged our friends to also share our project, and got a few backers that way. Also, we've been alerting relevant blogs, but haven't received anything back. Submitted a few pictures to tumblr, got a few backers that way too.

    I got off to a relatively good start mainly because my employer decided to support it :) I am still far away from reaching my target though.

    I tried promoting the campaign via paid ads on Facebook. I was on a tight budged and reached about 5000 users in two days, but none of them were converted into campaign support. Interestingly enough, Facebook ads worked really well when promoting the page I created for my game. Though I suspect those might be serial likers :)

    I have heard that posting a link to your game on reddit might help too. I am about to try that. And I read somewhere that Kickstarter is more likely to show your campaign on their front page if there is a lot of activity on your campaign page. So I am trying to get people to at least comment and visit my page if they are not really interested into supporting it.

    Yeah, we did the Facebook ads too, which is very effective at getting likes, but it looks like the none of the people liking us are even watching our Kickstarter video.

    I agree about the facebook ads. They seem to be only good for likes and post engagements but when it comes to people actually backing the project... they just click and leave. And sadly those clicks cost money! I cancelled my facebook ads and looking for other places to advertise.

    I would definitely try targeting the retro and indie gaming communities. There are tons of blogs - offer to do a post-back if you have a blog/website of your own - and many groups on Reddit, FB, Google+, LinkedIn, etc. Don't just spam them, though - write personalized messages to that specific group as they're more likely to be seen that way.

    After having two Kickstarter campaigns (one failed to fund, and the other is pending), I can say that being personal on your page is a must. Post a bio somewhere near the top to engage the community and make them want to back your project regardless of rewards. Good luck to you!
