    Kickstarting Publishing Projects

    by Tessa » Tue Feb 02, 2016 6:31 pm

I wonder how many of you out there are running Kickstarter campaigns for publishing? Post here about your campaign. Fiction or non fiction? Are you looking to fund the actual publication or one of the stepping stones en route - editing, social media campaigns, PR etc?

I'll kick off below writing about my friend's campaign. She's got to 80% of her target and is running out of steam. I took on the baton thinking how hard can it be to sell those last 100 books? Now I know - it's a lot harder than it sounds! Respect to the lot of you!!!

    Riverside Lane by Ginger Black.

This campaign is 80% funded. The novel is written and the Kickstarter campaign has been set up but the publisher, Momentum Books, though Ginger Black will not be taken on unless they fund so is that a carrot or a stick? They have been in the Mail on Sunday, the local press and were today interviewed by BBC Radio to talk about their crowd funding campaign. They are taking pre-orders at the village hairdresser, the cricket pitch, the school, the restaurants, the library - the entire village have come together to help build momentum for this campaign and they just need to sell those last 100 paperbacks!

It's a quirky village mystery set in a quintessentially english village where an American arrives on a house swap claiming to be on holiday. But he is not all he seems and the repercussions of his arrival spread through the village ........ it's thrilling, funny, heartwarming and sad. I loved it. SO will you.

Well...I don't know if my campaign counts as publishing. You see mine is called "The $1 Poem Project". Essentially, for $1 you give me a topic, and I write a poem on that topic and mail it to anywhere in the world. It's a lot of fun and I can't wait to get people's topics. I'm expecting a full range of topics from silly to sad to social issues, I'm really looking forward to it.

What a great project! I'd love to spread the word - I don't think you added the url to your page - if you add it I can ask Ginger Black to tweet about it and stuff.
