Hey everyone! I'm new to this forum and new to Kickstarter as a creator, so I would love to share my project here and see what everyone thinks about it. I am now half-way in the campaign with 75% funded. I've definitely done mistakes which I'm happy to discuss. Would also very much appreciate any immediate advice for the last 2 weeks of my campaign. But first of all here's what it's all about:
I’m creating an online community that directly supports artists by printing their designs on ethical clothes. I’m an artist, illustrator and architect with a passion for black & white ink drawings. As I gradually connected with many similar artists, I kept observing the same frustration with the art scene, exhibition spaces and of course the financial struggles that come with being an artist. I always wanted to somehow tackle these issues and help our community, until eventually I came up with a concept that I believe can do it – Meera!
Meera is a new ethical clothing brand showcasing artwork on clothes. Joining forces with a few friends and creatives, we set to make this project a reality. Our vision came from a burning desire to see more art outside stuffy galleries and on more streets and bodies. We want art to be living, breathing and stimulating our lives every day. In order to do that we want to bring the creative community to their canvases – people!
We want to help artists showcase their work through our online platform while we promote them and support them financially. How do we do this? We are going to connect them to more people who will appreciate their work. Each item on offer carries an artists’ design and for each item sold, that artist gets a share of the profit. Being artists ourselves, we have an urge to create and a passion to build a community of people who believe art is dynamic.
From the beginning, we were equally passionate about respecting the people who make our clothes, so we only work with certified sellers of organic, low-impact, fair trade garments, respecting human rights and dignity and minimizing environmental impact.
Sourcing our clothes from ethical & sustainable suppliers was never part of our concept idea or marketing plan, it was simply the only way to go. The fashion industry's complex supply chain has been and still is hugely damaging to millions of lives and massively harmful to the environment, so we needed to make sure we avoid being part of this.
We’re just a small group of friends who are living out an idea we believe in. We don't expect to change the world on our own, but we enjoy doing our part and we hope to inspire others in the process! We are certainly not perfect, but we'll keep learning and improving as we go.
