Although what you're suggesting to him is 2 streams of capturing potential backers - social and email (via his site).
- His campaign is pretty much close to launching, so those two suggestions might be a bit late...
But you're suggestions are pretty much what all campaign owners should do, as it "tests the waters" see who are interested and then know who to target.
I actually find social backing not that relevant. People just like to click like/favorite without actually looking at your site or engaging with you...but if it's something you want to try, go ahead

Overall, I think my suggestions about focusing on his campaign page are useful too - because he has strayed away from the actual product by offering all the extra stuff, when seeds should be his main focus and then explain why his seeds (and cool box) should be backed...rather than spending time collecting emails and posting on social.
