Back To The Future Self Drying Jacket

    by Falyon » Wed Oct 14, 2015 8:42 pm

    Hi all,

You know, when I was younger, I always wanted one of those self-sdjusting, self-drying jackets like Marty used in Back To The Future Part II. I waited and waited for someone to invent one. Then 2015 came, and still no self-drying jacket.

You know what they say: you want something done right, you do it yourself. I decided enough was enough and invented it myself.

So to anyone out there who ever dreamed of wearing the self-drying jacket from Back To The Future, let it be known: As of today, in the year 2015, it's real.

    Any comments are welcome.

And thanks for creating this awesome board!

It's actually a great concept to "hat tip" to you for doing it, just like the movie.

That said...I think you should close your campaign and restart it later on, here's why:
    - This sort of project could be Kickstarter recommended, it's great.
    - Seems like you didn't market it? Who did you reach out to? The big quirky sites would of loved this campaign
    - The photos quality isn't good nor is the animation.
    - The photo of the guy with the blown up jacket in the back doesn't look good at all?

What happens when water goes on it? It really does dry? What if water gets in the holes?

Can this jacket be in different colours? Make it brighter/stand out and be unique.

    - I also like the idea of high paying tiers to embed people's logos/company/names on their own jacket...that would be cool.

If you redo this campaign, let me know if I can help before you launch again.

    All the best!

    Thanks for the feedback!

You are right, we didn't market it much at all before launching. We did pay a PR site who is supposed to launch a media blitz early next week, but it seems like that may be too late?

As far as the photos, yes, we only took them with a poor quality camera. You think if we took much better quality photos it would make a difference?

Yes, the jacket does dry quicker than normal, We tested it by having it dry without the fans on vs with the fans on. Basically, it's like having two hair dryers blowing on your jacket, so it dries about that quickly (2-5 minutes). Even for shorter duration, it does dry a lot faster. Additionally, the jacket itself is already naturally water resistant. We couldn't think of how to show this in the video.

The model we are showing in this campaign is a "proof of concept" Prototype, the SDJ-00, which we used by modifying a pre-existing jacket provided to us by our supplier. We have designs to improve it and create the SDJ-01, with our own, better jacket designs, more colors, etc. but we launched this campaign to see if the interest is there. We plan to update the campaign with actual photos of the SDJ-01 as well as a new video once (if?) we get close to our funding target.

And your suggestion about adding custom logos to the jacket is great!

We do admit, the campaign was a bit rushed as we wanted it to coincide with this November, since it lines up with the "Back To The Future" timeline. We started testing prototypes over the summer and it tooks us several attempts to get an actual working model to function properly.

If you sincerely believe we should shut it down and relaunch with better photos and prior marketing, of course we will follow your advice. You have been in the crowdfunding game for a long time, while we are just a small group of people with ideas and the know-how to bring them to life.

Thank you for your feedback and suggestions so much, we sincerely appreciate your interest in our project. If you truly believe you can help us should we decide to re-launch, it would be welcomed with open arms.

    Thanks again!

Oh yes it's much to late to launch promotion after it's already been listed, there's alot of poor Crowdfunding companies out there...you need to be careful!

How about if a guy jumped in the water (or rain coming over his head), then activate the jacket...the blowing effects should look great and should dry him off a bit.

Yes unfortunately, I think you should shut it down...it's not nice for me to say it, but it's best you launch it properly and marketed it in the right way, so you can give this project the shot it deserves.

If you want us to be involved with promotion on our site or with pre-marketing as a consultant then sure, get in contact. I see something in this project, just looks a bit too "raw" at the moment.

Does it make a noise when it dries btw?

No no no, there's nothing at all mean about what you're saying, we appreciate it. We wish someone had been there to tell us what to do before we launched. We want to do this the right way.

To answer your question, yes, it does make noise when it dries. What you see in the video is pretty much how it sounds. It's meant to be like this:

Ok, the campaign is now suspended and we will begin preparing for a re-launch.

    May I PM you, please?

I’ve always been a huge fan of “Back to the Future” and the idea of a self-drying jacket is something I never thought would become a reality. It’s amazing to see that you’ve turned a sci-fi dream into a real product. I just checked out your Kickstarter page, and the jacket looks fantastic!

I’m curious about how it works. What kind of technology did you use to make it self-drying? Also, what’s the timeline for production and shipping? I’d love to support your project and be one of the first to rock a jacket from the future!

Wow, that’s incredible! It’s always inspiring to see someone turn their dreams into reality, especially with something as iconic as the self-drying jacket from Back To The Future Part II! I can only imagine how much work went into developing it.

It's cool to think that the tech we saw in movies is starting to come to life. I'm definitely interested in learning more about how it works and what features you've included. I love that you took the initiative to create something you were passionate about. Best of luck with your Kickstarter campaign! I hope it gets the attention it deserves! Click here to get more info.
