Just came across this.. almost thought they got rid of 'staff picks' entirely...

I guess it doesn't really change anything about the purpose of this right? Improves it I suppose?

Yep they replaced a graphic with text called "Projects we love"

I think it was a good move on their behalf. The main thing is, people can't just put those badges of their campaigns now and say their campaign is a 'staff pick'. The projects we love is a more noticeable addition to the Kickstarter campaign pages. I believe I started a thread on this a week or so ago as well

I got maybe one extra backer so far. I'm even featured as the "food" category project of the day. Saw one backer from that as well! I do think it's helpful though, just for your image of anything.
