I've backed 11 projects, 10 of which were successful.
Six of them were art related. With three of those I was both legitimately interested in the reward and wanted to see the project creator succeed. Two of those were for unconventional comic books (a medium close to my heart) and I think it's pretty cool to see my name printed on the inside cover.
One was for an app, Gmail for the Mac. It wasn't an expensive cost and I thought I would give it a try. I can get Gmail on my phone and access the page on my computer, but I like the idea of an app.
One was an idealist pledge. The Bluelace Project made these high quality blue shoelaces for people to wear in support of American manufacturing.
One was for a film my cousin was co-producing. I haven't received the reward yet, but I'll get the film on DVD and my name is in the credits. I find that getting my name on something tangible is a big thing.
The last was a pledge Passion Planner. I only got the PDF download of it, but I like the idea. If I'd been less broke I'd have sprung for a physical copy. On the surface it seems like it was very successful (>$600k) and was started by a young entrepreneur so it feels good be part of someone else's success.
